Virginia Carolyn Shelton,79, of Hanceville, Alabama passed at Cullman Regional Medical Center Dec. 19, 2020. Carolyn was born Oct. 19, 1941 in Cullman, Alabama to Bernice and Samuel Hughes.
She married the love of her life, Zelmar Shelton, Feb. 27, 1960. She worked as an office secretary for James R. Smith Trucking Company for many years where she retired and then took on the job as the local librarian at Hanceville Public Library. Carolyn was an angel on earth. She cared for so many throughout her life and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a magnificent cook and loved to read. Carolyn was a strong woman of faith and a member of First United Methodist in Hanceville.
Carolyn is survived by her four sons Zelmar Joey Shelton (Carl Shelton), Samuel David Shelton (Becky Shelton), Jimmy Leander Shelton (Julia Shelton), and Daniel Keith Shelton (Tammy Shelton); her six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings Mary Frances Brock, Elliot Hughes, and Van Hughes.
She is preceded in death by her husband Zelmar Shelton; her parents Bernice and Samuel Hughes; and sister Ruth Boatright.
The service will be Monday, Dec. 21,2020 11 a.m. at Shelton Grove Baptist Church. There will be no visitation due to the pandemic, and the family asks that at the graveside, social distancing guidelines be followed.
