GOOD HOPE, Ala. — Good Hope is coming off a sweep of Fultondale on the road and they looked to keep things rolling against a Vinemont squad that is coming off a sweep of their own at Hanceville. It was senior night for Good Hope and the Lady Raiders and Raiders both came away with convincing wins over Vinemont 68-24 and 69-49, respectively.

Good Hope 68 – Vinemont 24 (varsity girls)

The first quarter saw Vinemont take an early 5-3 lead on baskets by Berkley Gable and Abby Young and a free throw by Madysen Hacker with 6:20 remaining in the opening period. Good Hope countered with a huge run of their own as they went on a 12-0 run and seven of those points came from Ivey Maddox as they took a 15-5 lead. But the Lady Eagles answered right back with six in a row, including a three from Maggie Burks, to make it a 15-11 game. The Lady Raiders got a layup from Kyndall Seal to help increase the lead to 19-12 after one.

Vinemont cut the deficit to 21-16 on a Madalyn Flanagan layup, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the game as Good Hope ripped off 13 straight points. Five different players scored during the run to help push the Lady Raiders’ lead to 34-16 at the half. Good Hope picked up from where they left off the second quarter as they scored the first 15 points of the third period to make it a 49-16 contest. Young stopped the bleeding with a layup for Vinemont, but the damage was already done as the Lady Raiders got numerous steals and turned them into easy baskets as they increased the lead to 57-21 after three.

It was a running clock for the entire fourth quarter as some younger players got some playing time and Good Hope pushed its winning streak to six in a row after their 68-24 rout of Vinemont.

All but one player found the scoring column for Good Hope (7-2), led by Maddox, who finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Derrick added 16 points, four rebounds and four steals. Desire Odachowski ended up with seven points and seven rebounds. Seal added six points and three steals. For Vinemont (2-8), Madysen Hacker (six rebounds) and Burks (six rebounds and a steal) each finished with six points. Young added four points and 11 rebounds.

Good Hope 69 – Vinemont 49 (varsity boys)

Good Hope started the game out strong, scoring the first nine points of the game as Lawton Farr scored five points and Tanner Malin and Michael Owens each added a layup. Vinemont got its first basket of the game with 3:38 remaining in the opening period on a Caleb Sharpe basket and another one by Collin Teichmiller made it a 9-4 game late in the period. An Austin Riddle basket cut the deficit to 12-8, but the Raiders ended the quarter strong as K’mal Bell nailed a three from the right corner just before the buzzer sounded to give them a 18-10 lead after one.

An Ethan Anderson trey was later followed by a Malin layup to push the Good Hope lead to 23-10 to start out the second period and they later stretched the lead to 29-13 after back-to-back treys from Malin and Colton Lindsey. Malin later added another one from long range to make it 32-15, but the Eagles answered right back with its own three-point barrage as Ryan Stewart and Curtis Kennedy each nailed one from there to make it a 33-23 game. A Farr trey made it a 40-25 contest, but a Sharpe basket cut the deficit to 40-27 at the half.

Another Farr trey, followed by a Malin layup, pushed the Raider lead to 45-27, but six in a row by Vinemont made it a 45-33 game. Farr continued his red-hot shooting from long range, nailing consecutive shots from there, to help Good Hope increase its lead to 53-36 and would take a 55-38 lead into the final period.

The Eagles would look to make another run as a Teichmiller three cut the deficit to 59-43, but Good Hope put an end to that as they played stifling defense the rest of the way and got everyone involved offensively as the Raiders defeated the Eagles, 69-49.

Good Hope (6-0) was led by Farr and Malin, who each finished with 21 points in the game. Lindsey added eight points, eight rebounds, a block and a steal. For Vinemont (3-6), Will Rhodes finished with 14 points. Kennedy added nine points and five rebounds and Teichmiller ended up with eight points and four rebounds.

Good Hope will stay at home for its region opener against Oneonta Friday night, while Vinemont will travel to take on East Lawrence Friday night as well.
