Don and Mary married Oct. 21, 1950 in Iuka, Mississippi. He attended Augustana College and Augustana Theological Seminary in Rock Island, Illinois.

Don and Mary served at Lutheran churches in Minnesota, Florida and Alabama before retiring in 1993 and settling in Cullman to be near family. After retirement, he served in Anniston, Jacksonville and Cullman, winding up a preaching career of 56 years!

They have two children, Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Claudia) Strandlund and Tina Strandlund, all Cullman residents. They have five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren (soon to be five). An outside dinner party was recently held to honor this momentous accomplishment.
