BREMEN, Ala. – This year’s Cullman County Volleyball Tournament got underway at Cold Springs High School Monday night and nearly all of day one’s matchups resulted in sweeps. West Point and Good Hope swept Hanceville and Holly Pond respectively in the opening round and the Lady Broncos swept the Lady Bulldogs to eliminate Hanceville in the loser’s bracket.

Cold Springs and Vinemont faced off for their first match of the tournament and it was by far the tightest matchup of the evening. Vinemont took the first set over Cold Springs but the blue and gold bounced back to take the second set 25-17, forcing a tiebreaker. Vinemont was able to take hold of the momentum again and got past Cold Springs in the third set 15-10 to win the match.

Fairview and West Point then wrapped up the first night by sweeping Vinemont and Holly Pond respectively, filling out the bracket for day two.

This year’s champion will be crowned Tuesday night and the action will start with a pair of matches at 4 p.m. Vinemont will take on Holly Pond while Cold Springs squares off against Good Hope. At 5 p.m. West Point will play the top-seeded Fairview Lady Aggies with the championship match closing out the night and this year’s tournament after that.
