CULLMAN, Ala. – A Cullman man has been charged with torture/willful abuse of a child under the age of 18, chemical endangerment of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia.

William Richard Mebius, 27, was arrested Sunday by Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies after CCSO investigators conducted a short investigation Sunday afternoon in which it was determined  Mebius hit and kicked a small child.

Due to the graphic nature of the crime and the crime involving a child, there is limited information that the CCSO can release.

“As I have said before, we have made it a priority to care for those who cannot care and fight for themselves,” said Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry. “When someone injures a child there isn’t a punishment severe enough for them to receive.”

The CCSO worked in cooperation with the Cullman County Department of Human Resources on this case.
