PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lady Bearcats drop area match against Hartselle

CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman’s varsity volleyball team hosted the Hartselle Lady Tigers for an area match Thursday night and despite a good effort from the Lady Bearcats, Hartselle was able to sweep the match and leave with the area win. Cullman fell 25-17, 25-15 and 25-16 in three sets against the Lady Tigers.

Hartselle 25 – Cullman 17

The opening set was knotted at 4 early but Hartselle began to take control and pulled ahead 8-4. The Lady Tigers built a 14-7 lead midway through the set, but Cullman managed to claw its way back to within two points of Hartselle at 15-13. However, the Lady Tigers were able to recapture the momentum and pulled away to take the first set 25-17.

Hartselle 25 – Cullman 15

Hartselle jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the second set, but the Lady Bearcats cut the deficit to 6-5. The Lady Tigers pulled ahead 13-9 midway through the set and continued to create separation. Eventually, Hartselle managed to take the next set 25-15 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Hartselle 25 – Cullman 16

Cullman took an early 3-2 lead in the third set, but the Lady Tigers went on to tie things up at 6. The Lady Bearcats held a slim, 10-9 lead midway through the set but Hartselle used a 5-1 run to take a 14-11 advantage. The Lady Tigers’ run continued and they managed to pull away and win the third set 25-16, completing the area sweep over the Lady Bearcats.

Kaina Thomas led Cullman with 21 kills and added 10 digs in the loss. Gracie Barksdale posted 18 kills and 11 digs, Ashlen Heatherly finished with 19 digs, Kada Milne collected a pair of blocks and Sarah Kate Dockery posted a block as well.
