CULLMAN, Ala. – After the success of this year’s Mopars by the Lake car show, the Pentastar South Car Club tallied up the proceeds and donated $4,000 to Secret Meals for Hungry Children, an all-time high. This charity, sponsored by the Alabama Credit Union (ACU), lets teachers and school counselors discreetly provide weekend meals for students who may go hungry during the days without school lunches. With $150 able to provide for one student for an entire year, the $4,000 donation will be able to feed 26 Cullman County students for a year.

The check was presented to Laurie Legg of the ACU at Cullman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram by Scott Spitzer from the dealership and Brenda Allison from Pentastar South.

Legg offered a few comments after the presentation, saying, “Brenda is phenomenal. She gets out and does this every year, and she worked so hard this year even with everything she’s going through with her cancer. She was out at the lake from 6 in the morning to 3 or 4 in the afternoon, all to make sure these kids can eat.”

Allison herself commented, “I’m so touched by the response I received from everyone that came out to help. This cause is so dear to my heart. Being a teacher, this is something I see every day, and it breaks my heart to know that there are children out there who don’t have enough to eat.”

Allison said she expects next year to be even bigger and better, and that she has already gotten calls from people asking about next year’s show.

She thanked the show’s sponsors, saying, “Without people like Scott, Laurie, Terry Shabel and the sponsors they represent – the Chrysler dealership, the ACU, and Pepsi, respectively – the show could not go on. They have always stepped up and helped us with things that we have needed to make the show a success. I also want to thank our friends from New Orleans that always come up and cook for us each year, and all the others who contributed their talents to help out during the show.”
