CULLMAN, Ala. – Two Holly Pond High School students were killed in a single-vehicle wreck along County Road 700 late Sunday evening. Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick identified the victims as Joshua Dale McGinnis, 17, of Holly Pond and Dayden Michael Floyd, 16, of Blountsville.

Alabama State Troopers said a 2019 Ford Mustang, driven by McGinnis, left the roadway on Cullman County 700 and overturned. The victims were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened around 8:47 p.m. along County Road 700 between County Roads 703 and 709.

A note posted to the Holly Pond Broncos Facebook page read:

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of two of our beloved students. We are hurting with the family and ask that you remember them at this time. Please keep our students, families, faculty, staff, community and especially our baseball team and coaches in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Holly Pond High School Principal Steve Miller told The Tribune that counselors will be available at the school each day this week from 10 a.m. until noon, adding, “If anyone needs anything like that, we’re going to make sure that’s provided for our students.”

Miller also said that if students need to speak to someone but cannot come to the school, they may also call the school at 256-796-5169.

“We’ll miss those kids,” said Miller. “It’s a tragic situation that nobody ever wants to deal with. We just want those two families to know that we love them and care for them.”
