CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Police Department on Friday presented a commendation to Patrol Officer Clint Sanford for his actions at the scene of a recent shooting incident in the city.

Captain Gene Bates read the letter of recommendation from the CPD’s Investigation division, which included this statement from Sgt. Eric Cole based on his review of bodycam footage from the incident:

“From the moment Officer Sanford arrives, he acts in a highly professional, observant and tactically efficient manner. His actions on scene reflect greatly upon the service and professionalism of the Cullman Police Department and the City of Cullman desire from their officers. He is observant of the details of the scene and being safe and thorough in his handling. He is respectful but efficient in prompting other officers on scene to take appropriate action to secure and document the scene.

“My observation is that Officer Sanford’s poise, professionalism and leadership during this incident were exemplary and deserving of consideration and acknowledgement by the City of Cullman and the Cullman Police Department.”

After the ceremony, CPD Chief Kenny Culpepper told The Tribune, “He was recommended by one of his supervisors, and I completely agree that he did a fantastic job in a very difficult situation. This is something that brings a lot of pride to me as the chief, to have officers that are able to go into these circumstances and do such a great job.”
