FAIRVIEW, Ala. – The Fairview Town Council held a small work session Monday evening, led by Fairview Mayor Pro Tempore Charles Banister in the absence of Mayor Keith Henry, who is recovering from a medical procedure.
Fairview Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dr. Josiah Daily and former chief Doug Williams were in attendance to check on the status of the contract between the fire department and the Town. The men also inquired if the Town received the invoice for $14,500 from the department. The invoice is for back pay.
Concerning the contract, Banister said, “I think he (Keith Henry) is working on one right now, but it hasn’t been finalized or anything like that. He just probably has the same as the (current) one and they’ve made some changes, but I don’t think it was very much at all, it was just some little changes.”
Banister said of the invoice, “I don’t know anything about that; we’ll probably have to take that up next month when Keith comes back because we had no idea about it.”
Town Clerk Debbie Shedd confirmed to the men that Henry did receive the invoice from the fire department.
In other business, the council discussed the potential need to purchase a new lawnmower.
Banister said, “Keith had said something about one of the lawnmowers has started giving a lot of trouble and he’s kind of wanting to replace it with a bigger lawnmower.”
The council said the purchase could be decided at its April meeting. Shedd mentioned the Town’s maintenance employee Mickey Yancy will probably be in attendance then for the council to hear his thoughts on the mower.
The council also discussed nominations for Fairview’s vacant council place. It said nominations will be made at the April meeting. The place was vacated by Councilwoman Paula Edge last year due to health concerns.
The Fairview Town Council meets the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting is April 6, 2020.
