2 killed in wreck on Hwy. 278 E near Cullman Co. line

BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. – A three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon claimed the lives of two people, according to Alabama State Troopers.

The wreck happened at 2:44 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 on U.S. Highway 278 East near the Cullman County/Blount County line, 5 miles northwest of Blountsville. 

A media release said Micki D. Murphree, 57, of Hanceville was killed when the 2010 Honda Pilot she was driving was struck by a 2015 Toyota Tacoma driven by Hunter Ethridge, 23, of Blountsville. Troopers said Murphree’s vehicle then crossed the center line and was struck by a 2003 Peterbilt tractor trailer.

According to the release, Murphree and a passenger, Judy Lee Thrasher, 68, of Pinson were pronounced dead at the scene.

It said Ethridge and the driver of the Peterbilt were not injured.

Nothing further is available as ALEA Troopers continue to investigate.
