Oneonta 49 – Holly Pond 33 (varsity girls)

Oneonta jumped out to a 5-0 start early in the opening quarter and extended the lead to 9-0 by the halfway point of the first. Kennedy Twilley scored Holly Pond’s first points of the game at the three-minute mark to cut it to 9-2 and a Quincey Marks bucket made it an 11-4 game with 30 seconds in the period. Sarah Finley was then fouled at the buzzer and knocked down both shots at the line to cut the lead to 11-6 at the start of the second quarter.

The Lady Redskins led the way 13-6 early in the second but back to back three-pointers from Stallings and Tate Duke made it a 16-12 game with five minutes to play in the half. A pair of free throws from Stallings then cut the lead to two midway through the period and on their next possession, the Lady Broncos tied the game at 16 when Finley drilled a pair from the charity stripe. However, the momentum didn’t last for long as Oneonta finished the half on a devastating, 17-0 run to go into the locker room with a 33-16 advantage.

Another Stallings basket made it a 35-19 game early in the third quarter and Elizabeth Miller scored to cut the lead to 35-21. Unfortunately for the home crowd, the Lady Redskins ended the quarter with another big run, outscoring Holly Pond 9-0 in the final three minutes of the third to take a 44-21 lead into the final frame.

Rebecca Bell scored to trim the lead to 44-23 early in the fourth quarter and Stallings scored to make it 47-25 midway through the period but the Oneonta lead was too much for the Lady Broncos to overcome and the Lady Redskins pulled away to win it 49-33.

Stallings led Holly Pond with 11 points in the loss. Miller finished with six, Finley posted five, Duke scored four and Twilley added three.

Oneonta 63 – Holly Pond 53 (varsity boys)

Oneonta put up the first basket of the game on a layup, then Holly Pond’s Kyler Chaney and Jayden Perkins scored the Broncos’ first six points to give them a 6-2 lead. The Redskins hit back-to-back treys to get the lead right back at 8-6 but Holly Pond went on a 14-0 run, with Chaney scoring 10 of those points, and Levi Boatright and Jordan Allbright each added a basket during the run, to push their lead to double-digits at 20-8 and wound up taking a 21-12 lead into the second quarter.

Oneonta quickly went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 21. Jaxon Olinger put up Holly Pond’s first basket of the period to give them the lead right back at 23-21 and later made it 27-23 on layups by Landon Rowell and Parker Sellers. The Redskins, though, scored the final seven points of the period to take a 30-27 lead into the locker room.

Boatright hit a pair of free throws to start out the third period for Holly Pond to make it a 30-29 game, then Oneonta reeled off 11 in a row to make it 40-30. Chaney hit a pair from the line to stop the run. After Oneonta made it 42-32 on a pair of free throws, a three each by Boatright and Chaney helped kick-start a 9-0 Bronco run to cut the deficit to just two at 42-40. The Redskins countered with back-to-back baskets down low to take a 46-40 lead into the final period.

Oneonta pushed its lead to 49-40 after a three-point play and later made it 52-42, but the Broncos just wouldn’t go away as baskets from Perkins and Allbright swiveled the deficit to eight at 54-46. Chaney later made it 58-50 on a layup, but Holly Pond didn’t get any closer after that as the Redskins pulled away late and the Broncos wound up falling at the end, 63-53.

Chaney led the way for Holly Pond (5-13) with 26 points, six rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks. Boatright added 12 points, five rebounds and a steal.
