(Updated) 2-vehicle crash kills 1, injures 2

CULLMAN, Ala. – A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 31 and Alabama Highway 157 Thursday killed one person and injured two more.

According to Cullman Police Department Sgt. Joey Duncan, the two drivers, Tiny Burdine, 55, of Gulfport, Mississippi and Alex Smith, 20, of Cullman were transported to Cullman Regional while a passenger, Jesse Burdine, 63, of Gulfport, Mississippi was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he was pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The vehicles involved were a Toyota RAV4 and a Dodge Ram truck.

Duncan said the Toyota, occupied by the Burdines, was traveling south on Highway 157 (in the direction of Hwy. 157 East), while Smith, in the Dodge, was traveling north on Highway 31.

“The vehicles collided in the intersection,” he said.

Duncan said the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. It is still under investigation.
