Industry veteran Rick Karle joins WVTM 13 News Morning

Editor’s note: The Cullman Tribune is very much looking forward to working with Mr. Karle when he takes on his new role at WVTM 13, The Tribune’s Birmingham news partner.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rick Karle joins the WVTM 13 News team as a news co-anchor, the station announced Thursday. Karle will appear on WVTM 13 News Mornings, airing weekdays starting at 4 a.m. Karle joins anchor Eunice Elliott and meteorologists Stephanie Walker and Harmony Mendoza to round out the morning team.

“Rick brings depth and experience from his 30 years serving viewers in the Central Alabama area,” said WVTM 13 President and General Manager Susana Schuler. “We know he will be a great addition to the WVTM 13 News team.”

For 30 years Karle has served central Alabama as sports director at a local television affiliate in Birmingham. He has covered major sports stories including the six Alabama National Championships and Auburn National Championship. Karle also covered the 2011 central Alabama tornado outbreak, reporting on damage, recovery and rebuilding efforts. Prior to Birmingham, Karle served viewers in Jacksonville and Hanover. He has been recognized with six Edward R. Murrow Regional Awards and one Edward R. Murrow National Award.

To have the opportunity to work with Eunice Elliott, Stephanie Walker, Harmony Mendoza and the entire morning crew is something that I look forward to immensely,” said Karle. “Their professionalism and dedication to integrity and hard work (are) to be admired and I appreciate them welcoming me on board.”

Karle’s first day on WVTM 13 News Mornings will be Dec. 23.
