VINEMONT, Ala. – After tipping off the 2019 season against Holly Pond earlier this week, Fairview made the short trip up to Vinemont for a pair of varsity showdowns with the Eagles. The Lady Aggies took the first game 57-23 and the Aggies toppled the Eagles 70-48 in the nightcap. Fairview will host East Lawrence Friday and Vinemont will be in the field at the Curry Thanksgiving Tournament this weekend.

Fairview 57 – Vinemont 23 (varsity girls)

This was a low-scoring matchup early in the opening quarter as the Lady Aggies held just a 4-2 lead midway through the first, but a 12-0 run quickly stretched the lead to 16-2 by the start of the second. Back to back baskets by Daisy Manasco made it a 24-3 game early in the second quarter and Fairview managed to stretch it out to 31-6 with about four minutes to play in the half. Katie Ball dropped in a floater late in the period and gave the Lady Aggies a 35-6 advantage at the break.

The Lady Eagles scored the first basket of the second half, but Fairview went back to work after that, moving in front 43-13 after back to back buckets from Morgan Lindsay midway through the third. The Lady Aggies continued to pull away, adding to their lead and taking a 52-15 advantage into the fourth quarter. Vinemont picked up some baskets in the final frame, but it was too little, too late and Fairview pulled away to win it 57-23.

Manasco led all scorers with 24 points in the win, followed by Ball with 11, Lindsay with eight, Emma Garcia with six and both Jaycee Aleman and Molly McKelvy added four for the Lady Aggies. Bailey Preiss led Vinemont with seven points, followed by Abby Young with six and Kanasta Daniel with five.

Fairview 70 – Vinemont 48 (varsity boys)

The Aggies jumped out to a fast start in the late game, building a 10-0 lead early in the first quarter. An and-one play by Preston Ryan gave Fairview a 13-2 lead midway through the first but Vinemont’s Katch Johnson answered with a deep three-pointer on the other end. The Aggies took an 18-7 lead into the second quarter but another three from Johnson cut the lead to 21-15 early in the period.

A quick scoring run, capped off by a three from Peyton Bailey, put Fairview on top 30-16 midway through the second. Johnson answered with yet another three-pointer to trim the lead and the Eagles managed to cut it to a 34-21 game at the halftime break.

Both teams got things going offensively in the third quarter. 10 points in the quarter by Sawyer Daniel helped keep the Aggies on top while Johnson and Collin Teichmiller each knocked down a pair of threes for Vinemont to make it a 55-40 game going into the fourth. Fairview managed to pull away after that, holding the Eagles to just eight points in the quarter and winning it 70-48.
