City moves Christmas in Cullman events to Saturday due to rain

CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism (CPRST) Acting Executive Director Christy Turner announced Wednesday afternoon that the City’s Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting, originally scheduled for Friday evening, Nov. 22, have been rescheduled to a start time of 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 due to a forecast of heavy rain for Friday. The parade will still start at 6 p.m. in front of Busy Bee Cafe, followed by the Tree and Christmas Pyramid Lighting at Depot Park at the conclusion of the parade. The free Santa’s Workshop for kids, featuring crafts, pictures with Santa, and postcards to Santa, will open at noon Saturday.

Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs told The Tribune that the Christkindlmarkt (Christmas Market) scheduled to open at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon will instead open at noon Saturday, and will remain open until 9 p.m. The market is to be a “sneak peek” of a larger project planned for 2020.

The Grinch Party scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday evening at the Cullman County Public Library main branch, 200 Clark St. NE, will take place as planned, according to Library Director Sharon Townson.

  • Christkindlmarkt and Santa’s Workshop- noon at Cullman Festhalle
  • Free photos with Santa- 3 p.m.
  • Christmas Parade- 6 p.m., down First Avenue from the Busy Bee Cafe to Depot Park
  • Tree Lighting- 7 p.m. at Depot Park

Participating merchants will still have extended hours Friday evening as part of Friday-Sunday’s Christmas Open House.
