PREP BASKETBALL: Aggies, Lady Aggies open season with home sweep of Holly Pond

FAIRVIEW, Ala. — Fairview hosted Holly Pond in a county matchup on Tuesday night and the hosting Aggies and Lady Aggies took both varsity games. The Lady Aggies cruised past the Lady Broncos 54-24 and a huge first half was key for Fairview in their 84-40 rout of Holly Pond in the boys’ game.

Four different Lady Aggies found the scoring column in the opening period, including three-pointers from Daisy Manasco, Katie Ball and Molly McKelvy. Fairview held the Lady Broncos to just two field goals and a free throw and took a 15-5 lead into the second period.

Fairview put up 23 points in the quarter and held Holly Pond scoreless to take a 38-5 lead into the locker room and the second half was more of the same as the Lady Aggies dominated on both sides of the ball and wound up taking their opening game of the season, 54-24.

Every Fairview player found the scoring column in the game, led by Manasco who finished with 15 points. Maddie Yeager added 13 points, and McKelvy ended up with 11.

For Holly Pond, Elizabeth Miller led the way with 10 points.

Nine different Fairview players scored in the opening period as the Aggies took a 23-12 lead into the second period. The Aggies upped their scoring output from the first quarter by putting up 28 in the second and they held Holly Pond to just 12 points to take a 51-24 lead into the locker room at the half.

Fairview continued the scoring onslaught in the third period and put up 27 in the quarter while holding the Broncos to just 12 points once again to take a 78-36 lead into the final period. A hot clock was in effect for the final quarter and the Aggies wound up winning their first game of the season, 84-40.

Just like in the girls’ game, every Fairview player found the scoring column in the contest, with four of them finishing in double figures. Dow Nichols finished the game with 22 points, J.T. White added 11 points and Peyton Bailey and Owen Yarbrough each chipped in with 10 points.

For Holly Pond, Kyler Chaney finished with 12 points and Landon Rowell added nine in the loss.

Fairview and Holly Pond will both be on the road Thursday night. The Aggies will travel to Vinemont and the Broncos will travel to face Good Hope.
