CULLMAN, Ala. – This year’s Hannah Bates Memorial Fishing Tournament is scheduled to get underway this Saturday, Oct. 26 and it generates proceeds for a great cause while also honoring the memory of a beloved friend and family member within the community. Bates, 21, was killed in an ATV crash at Stony Lonesome OHV Park in February 2018.

All proceeds from the tournament go toward the Hannah Bates Memorial Scholarship at Wallace State Community College. The scholarship is offered each year to students in the Fast Track, Business Management or Nursing Programs. Last year’s tournament saw 13 boats hit Smith Lake to compete in the inaugural event and the organizers are hoping for an even better turnout this year.

Registration will begin at 5:30 Saturday morning at the Smith Lake boat launch and the tournament will officially kick off at 6:30. Winners will be determined at the weigh-in starting at 1 p.m.
