HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Scholars’ bowl is back for a new season, and The Tribune welcomes back Wallace State’s Christine O’Leary to help with coverage. The first matches of the year featured area middle schools, including East Elementary sixth grade.

Perennial powerhouse West Point made a strong opening statement, scoring more than 400 points in each round. It, Cullman, St. Bernard, Hanceville and Vinemont all finished week one with just Ws beside their names.
