PREP VOLLEYBALL: Holly Pond sweeps tri-match at Good Hope; Lady Raiders collect area win over Ashville

GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope Lady Raiders were in action at home Tuesday night to take on Ashville in an area matchup and later faced Holly Pond to close out the tri-match. Good Hope toppled Ashville 3-1 to pick up the area and after the Lady Broncos knocked the Lady Bulldogs in three sets, Holly Pond defeated the Lady Raiders 2-0 to close the night.

Good Hope 3 – Ashville 1 (25-16, 25-15, 20-25, 25-16) (Area)

The Lady Raiders and Lady Bulldogs got Tuesday’s tri-match underway with an area showdown and Good Hope took an early lead after winning the first set 25-16. Ashville jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the second set, but the Lady Raiders were able to move ahead 7-6. Good Hope maintained a 13-10 lead midway through the set and was able to extend its lead to 20-13 before pulling away to take the second set 25-15.

The Lady Bulldogs built another early lead with their backs against the wall in the third set, but the Lady Raiders were able to climb back and take a 10-9 lead. Ashville took a 15-13 lead later in the set and hit a scoring run to win it 25-20 and force a fourth set. The fourth set was tied at 4 early on but after Good Hope moved in front 6-5, the lead didn’t change hands again. The lead stretch to 13-9 and 20-13 before the Lady Raiders pulled away to seal the 25-16 win and take the area match 3-1.

Ivey Maddox led Good Hope with 10 kills to go with two aces and two digs, Ruby Lucas collected nine kills, Abi Neighbors finished with seven kills and an ace, Kristin Hart scored three aces and a kill and Kyndall Seal posted four assists, two kills and an ace in the win.

Holly Pond 2 – Ashville 1 (25-23, 23-25, 15-9)

The Lady Broncos took an early 4-0 lead in their opening set with Ashville, but the Lady Bulldogs managed to trim that lead to 8-7 as the set progressed. Holly Pond stretched its advantage back to 15-11 but the set was tied at 18 late. Ashville led it 21-20 at one point but the Lady Broncos used a late scoring run to take the first set 25-23.

The second set was knotted at 4 early but the Lady Bulldogs moved ahead 13-12 midway through the set. They managed to extend that lead to 17-13 as the set went on and fought off a late scoring run from Holly Pond to take the second set 25-23 and force a tiebreaker set. The third set was tied at 8 at the midway point but the Lady Broncos dominated from that point and pulled away to win the third set 15-9 and defeat Ashville.

Holly Pond 2 – Good Hope 0 (25-18, 25-18)

Good Hope and Holly Pond squared off to wrap up Tuesday’s tri-match and the match ended with another impressive win for the Lady Broncos. Holly Pond took a 4-1 lead early, but the Lady Raiders responded and trimmed the lead to 6-5. Good Hope trailed 14-12 midway through the set and cut it to 18-17 at one point but the Lady Broncos ended the set on a 7-1 run and took the first set 25-18.

Holly Pond repeated its performance in the second set, taking a 5-1 lead early and slowly building on its lead as the set progressed. The Lady Broncos led things 17-9 at one point before pulling away to win it 25-18 and defeat the Lady Raiders 2-0.

Good Hope will travel to Fairview Thursday to take on the Lady Aggies and Holly Pond will be on the road Thursday as well, traveling to face area foe East Lawrence.
