CULLMAN, Ala. – Newk’s Eatery is coming to Cullman. The restaurant will be opening in the former Dairy Queen building at 410 Second Ave. (U.S. Highway 31 North)

Susan Eller, with the Cullman Economic Development Agency, said, “Renovations on the building began this week and plans are to be open fall 2019.”

Britt and Larry Smallwood, owners of Zaxby’s in Cullman, are opening the new Newk’s Eatery.

Said Britt Smallwood, “I worked for Newk’s for several years when I was in my 20s, and I just really fell in love. When the owners asked me if we would be interested in bringing Newk’s to Cullman, I was excited. I love their food and am very passionate about it.”

Larry Smallwood added, “We started demolition and remodel on the location yesterday (Wednesday) and we hope to be open by late fall. We will be open in 2019. I feel confident about that.”

Newk’s Eatery serves a wide variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, and pizza. Britt explained that the Cullman location will be different that other Newk’s by having a drive-thru. They have pre-made grab and go meals that are made fresh daily. The eatery will also serve wine and beer.

Newk’s menu includes salads, soups, sandwiches, pizza, macaroni and cheese and desserts.

Newk’s has been in business since 2004, created by the founders of McAlister’s Deli.
