CRANE HILL, Ala. – A 64-year-old female swimming in Smith Lake at her home along the 800-1000 block of County Road 953 was found floating and unresponsive Friday afternoon.

According to authorities, her husband found her in the lake and flagged down people on a Sea-Doo nearby to help contact Cullman EMS and perform CPR until help could arrive on scene. The 911 call was placed at 4:24 p.m. and the Crane Hill Volunteer Fire Department was first on scene within eight minutes of the call going out.

Air Evac Lifeteam was called out to the scene but was unable to transport the woman as they had to continue chest compressions. She was transported by ambulance to Cullman Regional.

Cullman County Sheriffs Office Deputy Bradley Williams was the first law enforcement officer on the scene.

This is a developing story.
