CULLMAN, Ala. -The United Way of Cullman County (UWCC) celebrated 40 years in Cullman at its annual meeting Wednesday at Loft 212. Speakers gave highlights and talked about progress made over the past year at the many UWCC partner agencies and programs. They also gave special recognition to those individuals and businesses that made outstanding contributions to United Way’s mission.

Roy Drinkard was in attendance to present the Roy Drinkard Community Service Award. This year, it was given posthumously to Tim Collins, founder of Cullman Today. Collins’ wife, Tiffany, accepted the award.

She was moved to tears as the she spoke of her late husband, saying, “I just want to say thank you for honoring my amazing husband. He would be absolutely speechless. I want to thank all of you for embracing Tim and loving him. It’s not always easy to embrace someone from the outside in a small town.”

She explained that Tim had lived in many places throughout the country but said, “He always said that Cullman, Alabama was his home. It’s the place that gave him a sense of community, a home and a belonging.”

She concluded, “What a profound impact he made in his short amount of time on this Earth. He definitely left the world a better place. I think everyone has a Tim Collins story. You probably can’t remember where you met him exactly, but he was always as if he had always been there.”
