CULLMAN, Ala. – The Shrimp Basket celebrated its grand opening Wednesday and seafood lovers came out in droves to take part. Located at 716 Second Ave. NW (U.S. Highway 31), the new restaurant offers fresh Gulf seafood, a full bar, pet-friendly indoor/outdoor patio seating and a beachfront atmosphere.

Sam Phillips, a general manager from Birmingham, was helping with the big opening and shared, “It’s been a great day. Staffing wise, they have done great.”

General managers and staff came up from Orange Beach and other locations to help the Cullman staff better handle the high volume they anticipated.

With platters of fresh oysters and frozen tropical cocktails being served, along with the bright colors and décor, the Shrimp Basket definitely brings a touch of the beach to the city of Cullman.

Customers Misty Gibson and Patsy Maner planned their Wednesday outing around the opening, with Gibson admitting, “Every time we go to the beach, I always email their corporate asking for one so I’m tickled.”

Maner added, “I love it. I just wish them well and hope that they stay here forever!”

Gibson and Maner weren’t alone in their excitement as almost every table was full into the late afternoon.

With the Major League Fishing (MLF) Bass Pro Tour Stage 5 in town and AHSAA State Track and Field Meet scheduled to start Friday at Cullman High School, Phillips smiled, “We picked a great week to open.”

Manager Karen Rowe was very excited about the opening day success. She explained that pick-up and delivery will be available once the restaurant gets past the craziness of opening.

Of a private soft opening event Tuesday night, Rowe said, “We had a wonderful day yesterday. My favorite part of the whole store is outside where the doors come open. It brings everybody in.”

The Shrimp Basket is open seven days a week. Besides seafood, it also has many burgers and other options for those who prefer more traditional items. The Shrimp Basket is open each day at 11 a.m., closing at 9 Sunday-Thursday and 10 Friday and Saturday.
