PREP SOCCER: Lady Bearcats finish 3rd at Smoky Mountain Cup

GATLINBURG, Tenn. – The fourth-ranked Lady Bearcats spent the weekend in Gatlinburg to compete in this year’s Smoky Mountain Cup with a field of top teams from five different states. Cullman finished third at the tournament after posting a 2-1 record against some of the top teams from Oklahoma with wins over Pryor High School and Putnam City West and a loss to Fort Gibson.

The Lady Bearcats dropped their first matchup of the weekend to Fort Gibson 6-2. Jeta Falcon scored on an assist from Ashlei Bryant to trim the lead to 2-1 at the halftime break but Fort Gibson pulled away to win it 6-2 in the second half. Emily Moss scored in the second half for Cullman.

In their second game against Pryor, Abby Branham, Bryant and Falcon each found the back of the net to lift the Lady Bearcats to a 3-2 win and in their final game of the weekend, Branham racked up three goals in a 4-1 win over Putnam City West. Falcon scored the other goal of the game for Cullman along with an assist and Pia Muri, Bryant and Branham each collected an assist as well.

The Lady Bearcats are now 12-3-2 with their first section match against Decatur coming up at home on Thursday.
