PREP SOFTBALL: West Point and Good Hope drop Wednesday night matchups

CULLMAN, Ala. – Good Hope traveled to Jasper to take on Curry, while West Point hosted Danville in Wednesday afternoon softball action. The Lady Raiders fell to the Lady Yellow Jackets 11-4 while the Lady Warriors dropped a tough game to the Lady Hawks 4-2.

Danville 4 – (2-3-1) West Point 2

West Point put up the first run of the ball game in their opening at-bats. Gracie Abbott doubled to right field on the first pitch, Carlie Wilkins sacrificed her over to third and she later scored on an RBI single from Makayla Brown.

The Lady Warriors added another run in the bottom of the third when Abbott drew a walk and later scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0. Wilkins kept Danville off the scoreboard for the first four innings, but the Lady Hawks found the scoreboard in the fifth with an RBI single that cut the West Point lead to 2-1. Danville got a huge rally going in the sixth and wound up taking the lead on a two-run double. They added another run on a Lady Warriors error to make it 4-2. 

West Point couldn’t get its offense going after that and fell at home 4-2

Brown finished with a hit and an RBI for the Lady Warriors. Abbott added a hit and she scored both runs. Wilkins and Gracie Thompson each chipped in with a hit. They will look to rebound on Thursday at Huntsville.

Curry 11 – (4-2) Good Hope 4 

Good Hope struck first in their opening at-bats. Morgan Goodwin and Jacqueline Hays led off the game with back-to-back singles and later, Angelina Flanagan drove Hays in with an RBI single to give the Lady Raiders a 1-0 lead. Curry answered in their half of the inning as they got runs on a passed ball, an RBI groundout, an RBI double and an RBI single.

The Lady Yellow Jackets made it 5-1 in the third on an RBI single, but Good Hope added a run in the top of the fourth on an RBI groundout by Abby Hunt. Curry stretched its lead in the bottom of the third on a two-run single and made it 9-2 with an RBI single.

Good Hope looked to cut into the deficit in the top of the sixth when Bailey Swann scored on a passed ball, but Curry widened its lead to 11-3 in the bottom of the sixth with two RBI doubles. Skylar Tucker added an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning with two outs, but they didn't get any closer after that and Good Hope wound up on the wrong side of an 11-4 loss.

Flanagan finished with a pair of hits and an RBI for Good Hope, while Tucker and Hunt each added a hit and an RBI. Goodwin finished with three hits and she scored a run. Swann added a pair of hits and she scored two runs. Hays chipped in with a hit and she scored a run, and Kailee Shikle added a hit. The Lady Raiders will participate in the Umpires Tournament at Hanceville on Thursday.
