Obituary: Alfred (Al) Eugene Stone

Funeral services for Alfred (Al) Eugene Stone, 84, of Cullman will be on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, at two o’clock at Moss Service Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Chuck Worley, officiating, with interment in Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne, Alabama.

Mr. Stone passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. Al was born April 23, 1934, in Fort Payne, AL to A. V. “Algie” and Emma Stone. Al worked many years in sales with the Coca Cola Company, out of Atlanta, GA and he ended his career in sales with the National Foundation for the Blind, in Mississippi. Al was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Cullman. He served as a head usher, but he enjoyed serving communion to the members that were shut-ins at home or nursing facilities, the most. He also served communion at church.

He was preceded in death by his parents A. V. “Algie” Stone and Emma; his first wife and mother of his children, Loretta Galloway Stone; a son Al Stone; three brothers, R. E. Stone, Vernon Stone, and Bill Stone; and one sister, Louise Stone Bryant.

Survivors include his wife, Polly Spradlin Stone; his daughter Terri (Curtis) Hartin; a grandson, Jeffrey Hartin; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Hartin, all of Houston, TX; and a sister, Doris Stone Padgett, of Atlanta, GA.

Pallbearers will be Bill Peinhardt, Doyle Jones, Larry Britton, Gerald Weatherly, Ray Latham, and David Hays.

Visitation will be at Moss Service Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m.

The family would like to thank the staff from Woodland Village Rehab Center for the wonderful care given to Al. You were so kind and loving, we appreciate all you did to encourage and help him. To the members of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, we thank you for all the many sitter and friends that stayed with Al and Polly. Your prayers and love are very much appreciated.
