Lady Warriors rout Holly Pond 45-18 to secure JV girls’ title game spot

HANCEVILLE – In our first matchup from the Cullman County Basketball Tournament Thursday night, (1) West Point took on (5) Holly Pond for a spot in the junior varsity girls’ title game Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors took control early in this one, jumping out to a 12-0 lead to start the game, but the Lady Broncos were able cut the lead down to 19-10 by the end of the first quarter. West Point started the second quarter strong as well and a layup from Sidney Smith midway through the period put the Lady Warriors in front 23-10.

Nikki Tyree stretched the lead to 28-10 with a 3-pointer at the 2:00 mark of the half and West Point carried a 30-11 lead into the halftime break.

The Lady Warriors continued to add to their lead in the second half, widening the gap to 43-15 late in the third quarter. Smith added another bucket with less than a minute in the quarter to put West Point in front 45-15 headed to the fourth. With the clock running for the final period, the Lady Warriors pulled away to win it 45-18.

Smith led the way for West Point with 14 points, followed by Braelee Quinn with 11 and Summer Mendoza with 10. For Holly Pond, Kaylee Stallings led the way with six points.

The Lady Warriors will be back on the floor Saturday at 2:30 in the junior varsity girls’ championship games against the winner of Friday night’s showdown between (2) Cold Springs and (3) Fairview.
