Cold Springs, Vinemont High Schools receive $50K grants from CCCDC

CULLMAN – The Cullman County Community Development Commission (CCCDC) awarded Cold Springs and Vinemont High Schools $50,000 each at its monthly meeting Tuesday night. Cold Springs will use the funds for its library, while Vinemont will get a new HVAC system for its gymnasium.

Here’s the full list of grants awarded this month:

  • Cold Springs High School, library furniture and covered awning, $50,000
  • Vinemont High School, HVAC system for school gymnasium, $50,000
  • City of Good Hope, sewer upgrade matching grant, $12,000
  • Cullman PALS, boom trailer- solid waste officer, $12,000
  • Life Long Learning, youth and adult literacy, $6,000
  • Hanceville Middle School, 30 Dell Chromebooks, charging station cart and headphones, $11,247.07
  • Harmony School, Recipe for Reading trade books, $12,000
  • Holly Pond Elementary School, cart of Chromebooks for library, $8,000
  • Joppa Volunteer Fire Department, five units of turn-out gear, $12,000
  • Good Hope Middle School, three iPad Pros, keyboards and Apple pencils, $3,651
  • Cullman County Child Development Center, playground renovation, $12,000

CCCDC board members are appointed by the Cullman area’s state legislative delegation.

CCCDC members are:

  • Cherrie Haney – appointed by Sen. Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman
  • Joe Golden – appointed by Rep. Randall Shedd, R-Fairview
  • Bradley Williams – appointed by Rep. Corey Harbison, R- Good Hope
  • Josh Speakman – appointed by Rep. Scott Stadthagen, R-Hartselle
  • Champ Crocker, chairman – appointed by the legislative delegation

Funding for CCCDC grants comes from taxes-  Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in lieu of taxes and beer taxes. Grants are capped at $12,000 and are not issued for more than that amount except under extraordinary circumstances, which must be approved by the legislators. The $50,000 grant awarded tonight to Cold Springs High School falls under that category.

The CCCDC strives to maintain a $100,000 reserve fund, as advised by the legislators.
