PREP BASKETBALL: West Point cruises past Holly Pond to advance in junior varsity tournament

HANCEVILLE – In our second junior varsity boy’s matchup of the day, (3) West Point handled (3) Holly Pond to advance to take on the winner of the (2) Good Hope vs. (7) Hanceville game this evening.

The Broncos kept things tight in the first quarter, trailing just 9-8 at the end of the period. The Warriors were able to create some separation in the second, stretching out to a 27-16 advantage by the end of the half.

West Point continued to build their lead in the third quarter, including a layup from Jonathan Fell late in the third quarter that put the Warriors ahead 39-22. They added another basket to make it 41-22 going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth featured more of the same. West Point continued to hold the Broncos in check defensively and pulled away to a 47-32 win. Jonathan Fell led the way for the Warriors with 13 points, followed by Logan Selby with nine points and Brannon Bright and Carter Thornton who each finished with eight.

For the Broncos, Casey Brown finished as the leading scorer with 14 points, followed by Jayden Perkins with six.

The Warriors will be back in action when they take on the winner of Good Hope and Hanceville's matchup Tuesday night at 5:00.
