Cullman County students, teachers recognize school board members

CULLMAN – On Thursday evening, the Cullman County Board of Education (CCBOE) officially seated its board for the new session as students, teachers and administrators from schools across the county came to honor board members.  January has been declared School Board Recognition Month. Board members received plaques, gift bags and other tokens of appreciation.

Board members elected or re-elected during the last election cycle include:

  • Shane Rusk, District 2 – Fairview High School, Fairview Middle School Book, Fairview Elementary School, Parkside School
  • Kenny Brockman, District 4 -Hanceville High School, Hanceville Middle School, Hanceville Elementary School, Welti Elementary School
  • Mike Graves, District, 6 -Vinemont High School, Vinemont Middle School, Vinemont Elementary School, Child Development School
  • Kerry Neighbors, District, 7 –Good Hope High School, Good Hope Middle School, Good Hope Elementary School, Good Hope Primary School

Board business

The board approved a contract for the West Point High gym with stage roof repairs in the amount of $43,072 with Mid-American Roofing.  

The board also accepted a bid from Wells Enterprises, Inc. for the first phase of the Holly Pond High cafeteria renovation in the amount of $47,333 plus architect/engineering fees.  It was able to deduct $5,200. from the bid amount from Complete Construction, LLC for Phase II of that project, from $148,347 to $143,147 plus architect/engineering fees.

The board approved an owner and architect contract with Gunn & Associates, P.C. for Vinemont High School football field lighting, with $10,500 coming from local funds out of an estimated project cost of $150,000.

The board also approved purchase requests from the technology department:

  • To purchase equipment to replace two servers and one disk storage array from ClearWinds per AIJP contract- $44,403.16
  • To purchase a Dell Data Domain Appliance and software for data backup from ClearWinds per AIJP contract-$36,545.15

The board approved the surplus sale of 13 47-passenger buses in a single lot.
