VINEMONT – It was a tough night at home for the Vinemont Eagles as they dropped a pair of varsity matchups to the visiting New Hope Indians. The Lady Eagles fell 49-41 after a big fourth quarter propelled New Hope to a win and the Eagles were held in check offensively in their 54-37 loss to the Indians.

New Hope 49 – Vinemont 41 (varsity girls)

The Lady Eagles got off to a 2-0 start in this one but an 8-0 run from New Hope quickly put Vinemont behind. The Lady Eagles had cut the lead to two but a deep three-pointer from the Lady Indians at the buzzer gave them a 16-11 lead after the first quarter.

Points were hard to come by in the second quarter. New Hope struggled to hold onto the ball and Vinemont struggled at the free throw line. With under two minutes to play until halftime, Bailey Preiss knocked down a three to go up 19-16. The Lady Indians scored to chip away at the lead, but Sadie Stanley was able to hit a shot in the finals seconds of the half to put the Lady Eagles up 21-18 going into the break.

The third quarter was another uneventful, low-scoring frame. New Hope hit a three with less than a minute remaining in the third to tie the game at 29 going into the final frame and it was tough sledding for Vinemont once the fourth quarter began.

After leading 29-18 at one point in the third, New Hope pulled away by tearing off a 25-3 run that extended into the fourth quarter and put them up 43-32 with just three minutes to play. The Lady Eagles were able to fight back and make it interesting when a jumper from Stanley cut the lead to 46-40 but it was too little too late and the Lady Indians held on to win it 49-41.

Preiss led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 16 points. Stanley and Madysen Hacker finished behind her with seven points each.

New Hope 54 – Vinemont 37 (varsity boys)

It was a slow night on the offensive end for the Eagles in this matchup. They trailed 13-7 at the end of the first quarter but the Indians capped off the second quarter with a 12-2 run and took a 27-15 lead into the half.

New Hope was able to keep Vinemont at a comfortable distance for most of the second half, maintaining a 16-point lead at the end of the third quarter. The Eagles were able to cut into the deficit later in the fourth quarter, thanks in large part to the scoring from Katch Johnson, but the lead was too much for Vinemont to overcome. The Indians pulled away to win it 54-37.

Johnson led the Eagles with 22 points in the loss, followed by Jordan Hall who finished with six.

Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles will look to bounce back with a win next Tuesday when they travel to Holly Pond.
