Prep Basketball: Fairview, Good Hope split Tuesday night matchups

GOOD HOPE – Fairview and Good Hope faced off in a pair of games Tuesday night and  the Lady Aggies used a huge second half to pull away and win it 62-39. On the boys' side, a huge fourth quarter from Good Hope helped propel the Raiders to a 66-48 victory.

Fairview 62 – Good Hope 39 (varsity girls)

Fairview and Good Hope played a tightly contested first quarter, with the Lady Raiders taking a slim 12-11 lead going into the second. Both teams went back-and-forth for a little bit and after a Molly McKelvy layup gave Fairview a 20-19 lead, Good Hope's Desire' Odachowski hit a three and got fouled just before the buzzer sounded. She completed the four-point play at the free-throw line to give the Lady Raiders a 23-20 lead going into the locker room.

The second half was all Fairview as the Lady Aggies outscored Good Hope 42-16 and took advantage of some sloppy turnovers by Good Hope to pull away and win the game 62-39.

Payton Golden scored 21 of her 24 points in the second half for Fairview (7-2), which is now on a six-game winning streak. She also added seven steals in the game. Morgan Lindsay added nine points and three steals. Katie Ball ended up with seven points, three rebounds and four steals. Daisy Manasco added seven points, six rebounds and a steal.

For Good Hope, Rudi Derrick led the way with 11 points, three steals and a block. Odachowski ended up with 10 points and three steals. Abby Neighbors added nine points, seven rebounds, four steals and a block. The Lady Raiders fall to 1-4 overall.

Good Hope 66 – Fairview 48 (varsity boys)

The first quarter was very low-scoring between both teams, but Fairview was able to take an 11-9 lead into the second period. Fairview held a 13-9 lead after free throws by Mason Black and Zane Miller, but the Raiders, behind Cole Maddox and Michael Lowe, went on an 8-2 run, with Lowe's three giving them a 17-15 lead. However, it was the Aggies who finished the quarter strong as they outscored the Raiders 14-4 the rest of the way and went into the half up 29-21. 

Both teams went back-and-forth for the majority of the third period, but Cole Maddox scored eight of the final 10 points in the period, including the final four, to pull Good Hope to within one at 39-38. The fourth quarter was all Good Hope as Matthew Dixon got it started with a three and the Raiders took off from there to outscore the Aggies 28-9 to win the game 66-48. 

Cole Maddox finished with 25 points, 13 rebounds and five steals in the game for Good Hope (4-1). Noah Fendley added 11 points and three steals. Lowe ended up with 11 points, 10 rebounds and a steal. Drew Maddox added eight points, three rebounds and three steals. Dixon added six points, four rebounds, a pair of steals and a block. Good Hope will travel to Ashville Friday night.

Sawyer Daniel finished with 13 points and five rebounds for Fairview (3-6). Luke Yarbrough also chipped in with 13 points. Fairview will take a road trip to Oneonta Friday night.
