Baileyton tables bid for new town hall construction

The Baileyton Town Council on Monday night decided to table a bid received for construction of the new town hall until negotiations can take place and a breakdown of the bid is obtained. (Christy Perry for The Cullman Tribune)

BAILEYTON – The Town of Baileyton Monday night opened sealed bids for the rental of newly acquired Town property and the construction of the new town hall.

Matt Ryan submitted the high bid of $510 to rent the new property for 12 months. The bid was accepted by a unanimous vote. 

Walker Brothers, Ltd. bid $310,000 to build the new town hall, but the council voted to table the bid until negotiations can take place and a breakdown of the bid can be obtained. The bid was over the $262, 000 amount the Town budgeted for the project. 

At November's meeting of the Cullman County Community Development Commission (CCCDC), Baileyton was awarded a $7,500 grant to add lights to the walking trail at the town park. Monday night, the council approved the purchase of lights pending a search for solar lighting options. 

Mayor Johnny Dyar invited everyone to the Baileyton Senior Center on Dec. 15 from 5-7 p.m. for the 2018 Baileyton Christmas Celebration.

Smiled Dyar, “The real Santa Claus, the main man, will be there for the kids.”

Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served, a drawing will be held for a giant teddy bear, and toys and goodies for the children will be handed out. 

The mayor also encouraged everyone to attend Thursday’s Special Needs Rodeo at the Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center, saying, “The main rodeo is good (Friday and Saturday night), but it ain’t nothing like Thursday! Also coming up, on Friday, Dec. 14 at 9 a.m., the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting its annual Christmas Dinner for Seniors. The event will be at the Cullman Civic Center with many door prizes and entertainment. 

Councilwoman Myra Martin invited everyone to Mt. Hermon Baptist Church on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. A 50-member guest choir will perform a Christmas cantata. Refreshments will be served after the performance. The church is located at 4312 County Road 1570 in Baileyton.

The Parkside Outreach Program, inside of A&D Motors (12756 Alabama Highway 69 N), has established a food bank for the Baileyton-Parkside community. The program is in need of freezers to help store meat, milk and other perishables. The Parkside Outreach Program has several areas of assistance available to seniors and needy families.
