CULLMAN – A wreck on U.S. Highway 31 South at Ninth Street Southwest in Cullman, by the old Peoples Bank, resulted in one man being transported to a Birmingham hospital by ambulance Wednesday morning. The wreck happened at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Cullman Police Officer Tyler Jackson said the man, only identified as being in his 60s and from Hayden, was driving northbound on U.S. 31 and crossed into the southbound turn lane, colliding with a semi truck hauling logs.

"He turned into the rear axle of the log truck," said Jackson. "He spun and hit another car."

Jackson said the driver of the truck and of the third vehicle were not injured.

The injured man was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be cut free by Cullman Fire Rescue.

"I don't know if he fell asleep or had some sort of medical issue," Jackson said

Jackson said the man's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The incident is under investigation.
