CULLMAN – The City of Cullman held its annual Citywide Safety Meeting and Picnic Wednesday at the  Festhalle Market Platz. Members of all city departments were on hand for the event, which served two important purposes.

Mayor Woody Jacobs explained, “Our insurance company provides a discount when all of the city employees attend the safety meeting. We also use this as an opportunity to provide a good meal while all the departments can unite for some fun and fellowship.”

Jacobs also recognized Ricky Weissend, a city employee preparing for military deployment.

Afterward, drawings were held for each department including police, fire, street and sanitation, waste water and sewer and others, with winners receiving prizes donated from a variety of local businesses or purchased by the City using funds donated by local businesses for the event. Prizes included Wal-Mart gift cards, various door prizes with gift cards from several different businesses and several $50 or $100 VISA and MasterCard gift cards.
