MONTGOMERY – Cullman High School’s Joel Sanchez started for this year’s North All-Star soccer team in its 2-1 victory over the All-Stars from the South Tuesday night at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex in Montgomery. Sanchez left the game with a minor injury in the first half. The All-Star Game is part of this year’s Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) All-Star Sports Week featuring the some of the best high school players and coaches in the state across all major sports.

Bearcats head coach Casey Harbin believes the consistent trips to All-Star Week have been great for the school’s soccer program and sees a lot of strengths in Sanchez’s game that earned him a spot on the North team.

“It speaks volumes about our program. This is the third year in a row that we have had a representative,” Harbin said. “Joel isn’t a Miguel (Tizapa). He isn’t going to impress you with his touch or offensive ability. He’s going to impress you with his positioning and knowledge. He is one of the best players I have seen when it comes to 50-50 balls. He’s as solid of a player as you can ask for.”
