BREMEN – Cold Springs looked to shake off last weekend's shaky performance at the Bill Collins Classic, where the Lady Eagles went just 1-3, when they faced off against Falkville on Monday. After a back-and-forth affair, the seventh inning was the turning point, as the Lady Eagles lost not only the lead, but the game, 11-9.

Cold Springs struck first in its home half of the first. Crimson Gann hit a one-out single to center field, then one out later, Anna Katherine Voce hit an RBI double to center field to put the Lady Eagles on the scoreboard. They added to their lead in the third as Drew Sanders hit a one-out single to right field; she advanced to second on a passed ball, then Voce drew a walk and Victoria Freeman loaded the bases with a single of her own. Kylon Hamby hit an RBI single up the middle and Emily Williams reached on a dropped fly ball by the right fielder, Irene Shedd, which allowed Voce to score, and Desmarie Moore made it 4-0 with an RBI fielder's choice.

After allowing just one base runner through the first three innings, Sanders got into trouble in the fourth when she walked Brooklyn Melson to lead off the inning, then she got two straight outs and looked to get out without any problems, but Maddie Holmes had other ideas as she hit a two-run homer for Falkville to make it a 4-2 game.

The Lady Eagles answered right back in their half as Gann reached on a one-out error by Madison Stewart at second base and Sanders hit a two-run shot of her own over the left-field fence, increasing Cold Springs' lead to 6-2. But sloppy Cold Springs defense brought the Lady Blue Devils back in the game in the fifth inning. Alyzea Aguero hit a bloop single to right field to lead off the inning, then back-to-back errors by Gann and Sanders allowed Aguero to score to make it a 6-3 game. Sydnee Fitzgerald then reached on a dropped strike to load the bases for Melson, who drew a bases-loaded walk, and Kameryn Scales tied the game at six with a two-run double to center field. Makenzie Veal later gave Falkville a 7-6 advantage with an RBI infield single.

Cold Springs retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Hayden Goodwin and Gann reached on back-to-back errors by Falkville to lead off the inning and Sanders gave the Lady Eagles an 8-7 lead with a two-run double to center field; Sanders later scored on a wild pitch to make it a 9-7 advantage for Cold Springs. Voce, who came in for Sanders with one out in the sixth inning, looked to shut the door down in the seventh. She allowed back-to-back one-out singles to Brooklyn Owens and Holmes, but got Veal to ground out to first as she was just one out away from giving the Lady Eagles their 12th win of the season.

But that plan was quickly derailed as Aguero tied the game at 9 with a two-run double, then back-to-back RBI doubles by Stewart and Halie Carroll gave the Lady Blue Devils the lead right back at 11-9.  The Lady Eagles tried to win in their final at-bats of the game. Lacey Rice hit a one-out single, then Shay Sellers drew a walk to get a rally started, but Goodwin hit into a fielder's choice and Gann grounded out to the pitcher, Scales, to end the game, with Cold Springs losing a heartbreaker at home.

Sanders led the way for Cold Springs with three hits, four RBIs and four runs scored. Voce (one run scored) and Hamby each added a hit and an RBI. Williams and Moore each added an RBI. Gann, Freeman and Rice each collected a hit. Goodwin, Gann, Toni West, Voce and Freeman each scored a run. The Lady Eagles fall to 11-8 overall and will play at home Tuesday against Addison.
