Wallace State baseball finishes sweep of Calhoun; WSCC softball remains perfect in ACCC play

Wallace State closer Heath Olive notched his seventh save of the season in Saturday’s series finale.

HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s baseball team finished off a four-game sweep over Calhoun on Saturday, prevailing 11-3 and 2-1 at James C. Bailey Stadium.

The Lions (26-4, 11-1 Alabama Community College Conference) have won nine consecutive games, including sweeping their last two conference series.

Wallace State pounded out 14 hits in Saturday’s opener.

Devin Brown finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and an RBI for the Lions. Dalton Sinquefield went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two stolen bases; Dalton Cobb had a pair of hits, including a double, and two RBIs; Kolby Robinson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Austin Triplett registered a multiple-hit performance.

Brady Sherrill finished with a single and two RBIs, Easton Kirk had a single and scored three runs and Heath Haskins added an RBI single.

Austin Parker (2-0) was the winning pitcher in his first collegiate start. The freshman from Hartselle went five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits. He struck out three.

Zack Moon tossed the final two innings.

In the second game, Kirk’s fourth-inning homer was the difference in a pitcher’s duel. His blast to right field snapped a 1-1 tie, and Wallace State’s pitchers made it hold up.

Jackson Tavel moved to 3-0 on the season with five solid innings. He allowed one run on four hits, while striking out four.

Sophomore Heath Olive notched his seventh save with five strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings.

Robinson had an RBI double for Wallace State. Noah Fondren went 1-for-2 with a run scored, and Cobb added a single.

Wallace State continues conference play on Thursday, hosting Marion Military Institute for a doubleheader, beginning at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, Wallace State’s softball team is on fire as well, winning 12 games in a row, including owning a perfect 10-0 mark in the ACCC.

The Lions (25-10) swept Snead State last Thursday and Bevill State on Friday – both on the road.

Against Snead State, Wallace State earned wins of 12-0 and 9-3.

In the doubleheader, freshman Keeli Bobbitt finished 5-for-6 with three RBIs, four runs scored and two stolen bases, while Sydney McKissick went a combined 4-for-7 with an RBI, three runs scored and stolen base.

Megan Hill had a double and five RBIs in the twinbill for the Lions, Caroline Burns had three hits, an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base and Tanner Robertson cranked her first homer of the season, finishing with three RBIs.

Charlee West hit a solo homer in the opener against Snead State, Alysia Anderson had a single, scored three times and tallied two steals and Sidney Edwards had a single and a pair of RBIs in the second game.

Meagan Schweiterman was the winning pitcher in the first game, striking out three and yielding two hits over five scoreless innings.

Lauren Keplinger (10-1) went the distance in the second game, striking out two and allowing three runs.

At Bevill State, Wallace State won 9-2 and 5-1.

Five Lions had multi-hit games in the opener. McKissick finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two stolen bases, while Burns went 2-for-3 with a triple, double, two RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base.

Hill accounted for a pair of hits, including a triple, and two RBIs; Edwards finished with four hits, including a double, and four RBIs; and Katie Burden contributed two singles. Kaley Anthony added a single.

Schwieterman (11-6) earned the win by allowing two runs in six innings. She struck out five.

Madison Grant tossed a scoreless sixth.

In the second game, Burns added three more hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored a run, and Bobbitt went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Kaylnn Holcomb hit her third home run of the season and finished with two RBIs and McKissick added two more singles.

Anderson finished with a RBI triple and scored a run, Becca Feazell singled and scored and Jodie Farnetti scored a run.

Wallace State softball returns home on Tuesday for a conference doubleheader against Shelton State, beginning at 1 p.m.
