Hanceville teen charged with capital murder in Etowah County

GADSDEN – A 17-year-old from Hanceville is behind bars in Etowah County, charged as an adult with capital murder, according to a report from The Gadsden Times.

The newspaper reported that Tyler Michael Abbott, has been charged in the shooting death of Aaron “A.J.” Huff, 18, of Gadsden. The incident happened on Thursday night and is Gadsden’s first murder of 2018.

Abbott was taken into custody on Friday.

According to the report, the two young men knew each other and were involved in some sort of altercation prior to meeting up in a nearby parking lot. The shooting happened at the intersection of Litchfield Avenue and Hoke Street, where men were in separate vehicles, Huff a passenger in one and Abbott in one behind Huff. Abbott allegedly got out of the vehicle, approached the vehicle in which Huff was riding and shot him.

Abbott is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center without bond.
