CULLMAN – Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) will make its annual stop in Cullman this month. The group will be in town from Jan. 15-20 to put on “Jack and the Beanstalk.” The production will include area children, ages 5-18, with auditions held on Jan. 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the Cullman Civic Center.

The theatrical company has come to Cullman annually for more than 20 years in partnership with Cullman Parks and Recreation (CP&R).

“Jack and the Beanstalk,” written by Jim Caron, is an original adaptation of the classic children’s story. Said MCT: What happens when a young boy plants Wonder Beans in his own backyard? For Jack, it is the beginning of a great adventure. With a little help from P.T. Wonder and a Giant, Jack learns a valuable lesson about true happiness. This musical production also features a host of other characters, including the Elegant Harp, Jill, Mother, Milky White, the Farmers, the Merchants, the Circus Performers and the Wonder Beans.

Children ages 5-18 are welcome to audition; not all who try out will be given roles. There is no pre-registration or registration fee to audition. Actors who are awarded roles will be charged a $35 fee, which includes two parent tickets to the show on Saturday, Jan. 20.

Approximately 50-60 roles are available for local students. No advance preparation is necessary. Most students rehearse four hours and 15 minutes each day, Monday through Friday.

Selected actors will practice the week of Jan. 15-19 with practices in the afternoons, and perform two shows on Saturday, Jan. 20, one at 2 p.m. and one and 6 p.m. Both performances will be held at the Cullman Civic Center and open to the public. Tickets are $5 per show for adults and free for ages 10 and younger.

Last January, the group performed “Treasure Island” in Cullman. Read all about it at www.cullmantribune.com/articles/2017/01/21/young-performers-hit-stage-treasure-island.
