CULLMAN – It was a fast first quarter when the Vinemont Eagles laced  up against the St. Bernard Saints. After being even for most of the quarter, a late St. Bernard surge gave the Saints an 11-5 lead after eight minutes.

The Saints continued to shoot well from all areas on the floor, going on a 7-2 run to force an Eagle timeout. Vinemont used the break to regain its composure and cut into the Saints lead, but still trailed 23-14 at the half.

St. Bernard turned it up in the third, outscoring Vinemont, who had a tough time shooting from the floor, 12-4. This gave the Saints a 35-18 lead heading to the fourth.

It was a low-scoring final quarter. Just three points were scored combined with St, Bernard holding on to the lead and a 35-23 victory.

It was a very slow start for the Lady Eagles and Lady Saints. Seven total points were scored in the first quarter, six by the Lady Saints, to give them a 6-1 lead after one full quarter of play.

Vinemont shot better in the second quarter, opening the frame on a 9-1 run to take a 10-7 lead. However, it was short-lived as the Lady Saints rattled off five straight points to take the lead back, 12-10, and force a Vinemont timeout. The scoring went back and forth for the rest of the quarter with St. Bernard eking out a 17-14 lead going to the half.

The Lady Saints took over in the third, holding Vinemont to just six points while scoring 12 of their own to push their lead to 29-20 going to the fourth.

Down but not out, the Lady Eagles fought and clawed their way back into the game with help from a technical foul on St. Bernard coach Tiffany Hinkle-Pope . This led to Vinemont cutting the St. Bernard lead to just three points. Unfortunately for Vinemont, that was as close as they got as St. Bernard rattled off eight unanswered points and were able to hold off the Lady Eagle comeback attempt, winning the game 43-34.
