Traffic stop nets stolen weapon, counterfeit currency

CULLMAN – A traffic stop on Oct. 11 led to the arrest of Daniel Stewart Cochran, 44, of Cullman after a search allegedly yielded a stolen weapon and counterfeit currency.

Cullman Police Department Sgt. Chris Thomason and Officer Dustin Colburn stopped the driver, identified as Cochran, of a pickup truck for a traffic infraction on St. Joseph Street Northwest.  During the stop, Thomason and Colburn gained consent to search the vehicle and allegedly recovered a stolen rifle from inside the truck. Counterfeit U.S. currency was allegedly discovered on Cochran’s person.

Cochran also had multiple warrants with another law enforcement agency. 

Cochran was charged with fourth-degree receiving stolen property and first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, as well as the outstanding warrants. 

He remains behind bars at the Cullman County Detention Center.
