CULLMAN – It’s fair parade time again!  The Cullman County Fair Parade is this Saturday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m.

This year’s parade will follow the usual route up Second Avenue Southwest / U.S. Highway 31 from First Baptist Church to Arnold Street Northwest, between McGriff Tire Pros and AutoZone.  At the end, bands will turn right on Arnold to dismiss; all others will turn left or continue north.

Nine school marching bands will march in the parade, doing so in an order following a nine-year rotation.  If your band was first in line last year, it will bring up the rear this time; each band will move up one place in line from last year.  Representatives of community organizations from around the county are generally grouped with their local school band.

When The Tribune spoke with parade organizer Mark Aderhold this week, he was still waiting on the final list of participants; but after 20 years managing the event, he was confident that all will flow smoothly.

“It just about runs itself now,” said Aderhold.  “Everybody knows what to do and where to go.”

Band exhibition date changed

Most band folks are accustomed to grabbing a quick bite to eat after the parade, then getting on to Cullman High School’s stadium for the Cullman County Band Exhibition.  This year, though, the exhibition has been moved back a week to Sept. 23.  Organizers stated that bands might need extra preparation time, since outdoor practice has been limited recently by frequent rain.
