CULLMAN – A Cullman man was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine following a traffic stop on Cherokee Avenue on Monday.

According to a media release from the Cullman Police Department, Officers Trey Higginbotham and Cole Kelly stopped a small sport utility vehicle on Cherokee Avenue for a traffic violation on June 19.  The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jonathan Franklin Davis, 32.

After gaining consent to search the vehicle, the officers allegedly recovered more than 30 grams of methamphetamine hidden inside a food bag.

In addition to the trafficking charge, Davis also had an outstanding felony warrant and was out on bond from a June 1, 2017 arrest by the CPD for unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Davis had a small child in the vehicle at the time of arrest, and the Cullman County Department of Human Resources responded to the scene.

Davis is being held in the Cullman County Detention Center.

Said Sgt. Chris Thomason, "I would like to commend Officers Higginbotham and Kelly on doing an outstanding job and removing these drugs from our community. If anyone has any drug information that they would like to pass on, please call 256-734-1434 or 256-775-7179."
