HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s softball team remained perfect in conference play Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep over rival Shelton State at Bobby McCracken Stadium.

Charlee West’s walk-off single in the opener propelled Wallace State to a 2-1 victory, and the Lions added a 6-3 win in the finale.

Wallace State (20-11, 6-0 Alabama Community College Conference) has won six in a row in league play under first-year coach A.J. Daugherty, earning the early upper hand in the North Division standings after Tuesday’s sweep.

With West’s single in the opener, the Lions reeled off their third consecutive walk-off victory. They had two walk-off wins in extra innings against Snead State on Sunday.

On Tuesday, Taylor Stalnaker led off the seventh inning with a single and Bailee Daugherty pinch ran for her. Daugherty ultimately came around to score the winning run on West’s sharp single to left field.

West and Stalnaker each finished with two hits.

Taylor Beshears’ solo homer tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning for Wallace State. It was Beshears’ team-leading 10th home run.

Tanner Robertson and Amber Hammonds each added a single.

Sophomore ace Brittany Ledbetter hurled another complete game, striking out 14 Shelton State batters. She allowed one run on four hits and has struck out 27 batters over her last two conference outings.

In the second game, Madison Grant went the distance on the mound, tallying her first complete game of the season. The Etowah native struck out five and walked five and scattered three runs on seven hits.

Wallace State seized control with a three-run fourth inning for a 4-2 lead and added two runs in the fifth for a 6-2 lead.

At the plate, Jodie Farnetti finished 2-for-2 with an RBI single, a double and a run scored for Wallace State. Stalnaker added two more singles, Robertson had an RBI single, Hammonds doubled and scored twice, Elam doubled and scored and Beshears added a single.
