CULLMAN – Any team starting their first season in a new sport will have some challenges and some hurdles to jump over, but they cannot wait to prove themselves. That is the case for Cullman Christian School, whose 2017 softball season is the first for the program. The inaugural CCS softball season began Feb. 20.

Cullman Christian head coach Lauren Wynn is looking for a successful first season and admitted to the process being a little difficult, but says this is a big opportunity for her team to really step up and shine on the field.

"Fielding a new softball team is stressful and exciting," Wynn said. "I am eager to get out on the field and see what abilities each girl has.  I am sure there are plenty of areas that we need to improve and work on, even with the girls who have played before.  I am confident that with myself and my additional coaches we will be able to instill the softball fundamentals that are needed to get a program up and running.  We have also had outside support and help which has been an unbelievable blessing."

Wynn has seen the girls' attitudes with starting the new softball program, and she likes the way they have responded.

She added, "I believe my team will respond well with starting this new softball program.  The girls are eager and excited about having this new opportunity.  We have multiple girls who have played the sport before.  I am confident that with their understanding and playing ability, they will have a huge influence on the other players.  Allowing these girls to become leaders on and off the field is important to me."

Wynn is looking for senior Hope Ledbetter and junior Gracie Bryan to step up and become the leaders of this team.

What does Wynn hope to see from her team in their first year? Pretty much what any coach wants in their first season.

"I hope to see an improvement in each players' fundamentals, growth in their confidence in themselves and their abilities, team growth and respect for each other, and most importantly, I hope to see a fire and love for the game."
