CULLMAN – An inmate at the Cullman County Detention Center has died. According to a media release from the Cullman County Sheriff's Office, inmate Cody Dwayne Strickland, 26, of Cullman, was taken to Cullman Regional early Sunday morning after being treated and evaluated for an illness. He was pronounced dead at the hospital a few hours later.

Early indications are that Strickland had complications from possible pneumonia. The sheriff's office says no foul play is suspected. Family members have been notified.

“This is just a very sad situation. We have notified his family and we also made our chaplains available to the family during this time as well,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry. “We notified the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to conduct a transparent investigation but everything at this time points to no suspected foul play.”
