WEST POINT – The West Point Lady Warriors were unstoppable Tuesday night as they took down both Good Hope and Vinemont in a sweep of the tri-match action at Jim Boyd Gymnasium.

GOOD HOPE vs. WEST POINT

First on the docket for the Lady Warriors were the Good Hope Lady Raiders. Good Hope jumped out to an early lead thanks in part to a set opening kill from Emma Pugh that was followed up with an ace by Ally Knight. West Point grabbed the next two points when a pair of Good Hope attempted kills went long and out of play. The Lady Raiders bounced back with a 7-1 run that all but put the set away as Good Hope went on to a 25-11 set one win.

West Point returned the favor in the second set. The Lady Warriors started the set with back-to-back kills from Makenzie Carter and Meredith Calvert. Leyton Seal of Good Hope got her team on the board with a kill of her own but West Point answered back with a 12-2 run to put themselves comfortably in front by a score of 13-3. The Lady Raiders did not get closer than six points as West Point cruised to a 25-15 victory in set two.

Set three was a back and forth affair with the lead changing hands 11 times before West Point grabbed the lead for good and took set three 15-12 to win the match by the score of 2-1.

VINEMONT vs. GOOD HOPE

Good Hope got things on track when they took on the Lady Eagles of Vinemont. The Lady Raiders jumped out in front with two kills by Pugh and one by Seals and aces by Christian Smith and Ally Knight, giving Good Hope a 7-1 lead that they never lost. Vinemont got great net play from Sara Smith and Sydney Shields but the Lady Eagles could not get closer than 11-10 as Good Hope went on to take the first set 25-13.

The second set was all Good Hope. The Lady Raiders started things with a kill and a stuff at the net by Pugh. Knight followed with an ace before Vinemont got on the board when Good Hope touched the net on an attempted kill.  Good Hope came back with a touch kill from Sadie Fendley and an ace for Seal that forced a Vinemont timeout. The Lady Eagles scored first after the timeout but Good Hope bounced right back and rattled off a 9-3 run that led to a 25-9 set victory and a 2-0 match win for Good Hope.

VINEMONT vs. WEST POINT

Vinemont pounced on West Point early with an ace by Sarah Smith and a block by Zoe Thomas helping the Lady Eagles to a 3-0 lead. However, West Point got on track with back-to-back kills from Selena Clark and Meredith Calvert. Avery McClure quickly followed with an ace to give West Point their first lead of the set. The Lady Warriors continued to apply pressure with numerous aces and kills to take set one 25-16.

West Point took control of the second set early, going on a 6-0 run that Vinemont could not overcome as they fell to West Point 25-12 and gave the Lady Warriors the 2-0 match win.

Next up for the Lady Warriors is a trip to the campus of St. Bernard to take on the Lady Saints. Good Hope’s next game will be at Good Hope versus the Lady Bulldogs of Hanceville on Thursday. Vinemont takes the court against Carbon Hill at Vinemont Thursday.
