CULLMAN – It was easy going for the St. Bernard Lady Saints Thursday afternoon as they controlled the net and the scoring, dropping the Falkville Lady Blue Devils in straight sets 25-20, 25-19 and 25-15.

The Lady Saints took a commanding lead early in set one thanks in part to an early kill by Avy Whaley and a pair of aces from Ashley Duke to go up 5-0. Falkville finally got on the board when a St. Bernard attempted kill went long. The Lady Blue Devils scored the next three points to pull to within one of St. Bernard, but the Lady Saints were quick to respond, shutting down the Falkville comeback attempt. Emma Tafazoli scored a pair of aces while Macy Whaley and Anna Myers each added one on the way to a St. Bernard 25-20 first set win.

Both squads started the second set trading points with neither team able to grab a foot hold. Midway through the set, Falkville built a 2-point lead but St. Bernard stormed back, going on a 4-0 run to take the lead that they would never lose. The Lady Saints ended the set with three straight kills. A pair from Macy Whaley and a set-winning soft touch kill from Tafazoli, and St. Bernard took the second set 25-19.

Falkville looked as if they were going to force a fourth set, jumping on St. Bernard early in set three. Down 7-3, the Lady Saints dug down deep and received great plays from Myers, Duke and Macy Whaley. St. Bernard notched five aces and four kills in the third set, winning easily 25-15 and taking the match 3-0.

This is St. Bernard’s second straight match win; they defeated Whitesburg Christian Tuesday 3-1. The Lady Saints look to make it three in a row as they travel to Vinemont Monday to take on the Lady Eagles.
